Abstract

Milieu factors determined in peritoneal or drainage fluid and abscesses of infected patients differed significantly from those of patients with normal physiologic conditions. These differences might prove useful for rapid diagnosis of abdominal
infection. Hans Peter recetly described that the measurement of pH and pO2 allow for an easy, quick, sensitive, and specific diagnosis of bacterial abdominal infection. From march, 1994 to august, 1994 in the Surgical Department at the Jungang
Gil
Hospital. We prospectively evaluate the pH, pO2, pCO2 in pus, pertoeal fluid obtained during or after abdominal surgery from 50 patients who had underaone emergency laparotomy due to bacteriologically documented intra-abdominal or anorectal
infections.
